A Tax offset of $1,500 is available to taxpayers with less than $30,000 taxable income. It phases out at $63,750. 

2011 – 2012 Resident Minors under 18 – Rates

Unearned income of resident minors under 18 not in full time employment

From 1 July 2011, minors are no longer able to access the Low Income Tax Offset.
Minors can effectively only receive $416 tax free.
